Starting off by writing short stories throughout middle school, Jeff began to write his first full-length novels upon entering high school. Before all his success though it was on an old computer lying around his house, specifically an Apple II, that Jeff first got bitten by the writing bug. This stint as a medical samaritan doesn't last, as Koscuisko's abilities as a torturer are again called on when the first lieutenant is murdered. He extends this assignment to a general raid on the government's medical supplies to aid the slave population. His medical ability is needed on the planet Burkhayden to save a Nurail slave who has been brutally raped by the ship's first lieutenant. The opposite side to Koscuisko's talent for torture is his job as chief medical officer. He stays on board the starship Ragnarok to protect the Nurail slaves from his cruel Captain, while submitting himself to the Captain's games and exploitation. In "Hour of Judgment'' (Avon, $5.99), she brilliantly uses science fiction's freedom of creation to make a world in which she can explore deep moral conflicts.Īndrej Koscuisko is a tortured torturer. Matthews transforms this battered idea into a platform for something far more interesting than space war stories. 24 - Far future military empires based on royalty and slaves are more often than not quite silly, but Susan R. Military empire good scene for moral conflict The quote is by the satirist Jonathan Swift, and the unlikely genius at the center of Toole’s grotesquely comic novel is the corpulent Ignatius J. When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him. Overall, I highly, HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone that's just looking for a good laugh. A Confederacy of Dunces, comic novel by John Kennedy Toole, published in 1980. I mean hell one quote that stuck with me was when Ignatius' Mom tells him (and I'm paraphrasing here )" from all those books you've read, you couldn't figure out how to be a decent human being". I can't tell you how many times I thought I was so smart because I had so much knowledge in a particular hobby.but have terrible social skills. The main character Ignatius is the living embodiment of "so smart he's stupid", but I can't help but see that maybe all of us have a little Ignatius in us. This is the only book where after reading a certain joke, it was a gut-busting laugh and I had to put the book down for a second to get all the laughter out. And most times when I read a book and there's humor involved, I usually have a decent chuckle and continue reading. I had my doubts since humor is so subjective, some people enjoy slapstick more than satire, sarcasm when not done right can come off mean-spirited, etc. And MY GOD this is one of the funniest books I ever written in my short 26 years on this spinning rock. My dear, minx-like friend, Doveta Jefferson, enthusiastically recommended that I read Confederacy of Dunces. So I was recommend this book a while back considering I'm a fan of comedy and wanted to work on my humor writing (may or may not be related to me wanting to start stand-up, still gotta get over my stage fright). On Guard is Craig's introduction to the wealth of information, logic, and evidence that powerfully point to the truth of our Christian beliefs. He is one of a kind and I thank God for his life and work., There is probably no greater defender of the Christian faith alive today than William Lane Craig. I do not know of a single thinker who has done more to raise the bar of Christian scholarship in our generation than Craig. I know him well and can say that he lives a life of integrity and lives out what he believes. Besides that, he is a winsome ambassador for Christ, an exceptional debater, and a man with the heart of an evangelist. He is simply the finest Christian apologist of the last half century, and his academic work justifies ranking him among the top 1 percent of practicing philosophers in the Western world. It is hard to overstate the impact that William Lane Craig has had for the cause of Christ.
